Okay, I shouldn’t gloat but as a Cardinals fan I couldn’t just ignore it now, could I? :-)

Hua Mei loves music. Her favorite songs typically are those from the Disney movies she watches. These include the songs from Mulan, Cars, …

When we drive in the car, I play a CD with her favorite songs. For variety though I do try to play other music and maybe shape her musical tastes. Of course that will come back to haunt when she starts listening to her generation’s version of Britney Spears or whatever.

When she was little, one of her favorite songs was the Blue Hearts’ “Linda Linda,” especially performed by Paran Maum.

The Ramones are now a big hit and “Rockaway Beach” is a particular favorite. She’ll sing it in full voice when she hears it in the car. She loves this CD:

She also likes Blink 182’s “All the Small Things” and Green Day’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

I made a couple of playlists for our iPod that we listen to on road trips. One playlist is “80s One Hit Wonders” and the other is a “60s British Invasion” playlist. It’s interesting to see which songs she takes to. Tommy Tutone was not a surprise:

but Donovan kind of was. It was really strange though to hear her singing along with this Marmalade song:

I’ll wait a few years before I start reading her Sartre and Camus at bedtime. For the time being we’ll stick to Go, Dog, Go!
