We should learn next week some time the exact date for our Consulate appointment. Once we get the date, we can apply for our travel visas to China and make flight reservations. Since we plan to spend a few days in Beijing to acclimate and sightsee, we expect to spend a total of about two and a half weeks in China. According to the tentative daily schedule we received from CHSFS, we can start piecing together at tentative itinerary. It should look something like this:

Day 1 Depart MSP

Day 2 Arrive in Beijing

Day 3 Sightseeing

Day 4 Sightseeing

Day 5 Sightseeing

Day 6 Fly to Nanchang

Day 7 Meet child; Apply for notary and passport

Day 8 Visit orphanage

Day 9 Freetime

Day 10 Receive notary

Day 11 Receive passport

Day 12 Fly to Guangzhou

Day 13 Sightseeing

Day 14 Take visa picture and medical check

Day 15 Obtain child visa and interview at the Consulate by rep

Day 16 Bus to the Consulate to take oath and receive visa

Day 17 Leave for airport

So, for example, if our appointment is scheduled for Dec 2, then working backwards, we would depart Minneapolis on Nov 18 and return on Dec 4. We expect to spend about six days in Nanchang and about five days in Guangzhou. Grace will celebrate her birthday in either Beijing or Nanchang. I hope that we can find a good noodle place there.
